A WHALE was filmed near Peljesac on Sunday morning. It probably got lost and was searching for a way out to the open sea.

"It came from the east. It was seen in Dingac, Podobuc, and it then turned about 400 meters outside the Pratenica bay in Postup," the man who, around nine in the morning, managed to film the whale stated for the Dalmacija danas portal.

The footage shows that people who got to see the whale were quite excited and amazed by the sight.

"My God, look at the size of that thing," a woman could not hide her enthusiasm.

The whale was seen again around 10 am near Pratnice, and it then changed directions and began swimming east.

At around 11 am, the whale was filmed near Dingac.

"It was magnificent. We watched it from the shore, and at times it got unusually close. It probably got lost and was searching for a way out to the open sea. Even though there are tourists on Pelješac, I don't think seeing a whale would scare them," said the author of the second video.

Dalmacija danas has written that the whale is a fin whale that belongs to a species of rorquals, and is the closest relative of the blue whale, as well as the second largest animal on the planet (with the blue whale being the first). On average, they are about 20 meters long and weigh about 70 tons.
