EIGHT more people have died in Serbia of coronavirus in the past 24 hours and 258 new cases have been identified, the country's crisis response team said on Monday.

There are 3,554 patients being treated in hospitals and 146 are on ventilators, epidemiologist Predrag Kon informed.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic in Serbia, a total of 693,656 people have been tested for the virus and 26,451 patients have been identified, with the death toll standing at 598 or at 2.26%.

Kon said that the trend in a decreasing number of Belgrade citizens with symptoms coming for specialist examinations is continuing, as is the number of positive tests.

However, there is still a large number of new cases, Kon warned, suggesting that protection measures are still inevitable.
