IN ITS OFFICIAL announcement, the EU Commission recommended lifting the travel restrictions for the residents of 15 countries, as from tomorrow, July 1.
These countries are Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay, and China.
As for the residents of China, they will be allowed to travel to the EU only if the citizens of the EU are allowed to travel to China.
The EU states are opening borders to 15 countries, as of tomorrow. Serbia and Montenegro are among these countries, and Croatia also added Bosnia and Herzegovina on the list because, as Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said in Petrinja, the import of the coronavirus cases from that country is smaller than from Serbia, and the decision was made in the Croatian economy’s best interest.
Entry ban for Brazilians, Russians, and Americans
The final list of the countries for which the European borders will be opened doesn’t include Brazil, the USA, and Russia.
The announcement stated that the decision was made based on the number of new coronavirus cases in the last 14 days.
Residents of Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican are considered residents of the European Union in this case. The recommendations should be implemented in all EU member states, as well as states that are part of the Schengen area but outside the EU: Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
The list will be revised and supplemented every two weeks in accordance with the development of the epidemiological situation. Travel restrictions can be completely or partially lifted or introduced again for the countries from the list in accordance with the changes in the epidemiological situation.
Recommendations aren’t legally binding because only the EU state members have jurisdiction over border management, but they are important because of the need for the state members to act coordinately. An EU state member shouldn’t lift restrictions for the countries that aren’t on the list before that decision isn’t made in a coordinated way, as reported by the EU Commission.
